Off-Grid Wind & Solar Masts – Autonomous Lighting Solution

Marseille, France

As part of its strategy to modernize infrastructure and transition to renewable energy, the Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence partnered with VisionAIR WIND to install a series of autonomous hybrid masts on the docks of the Port of Marseille. The SANYA-R masts, equipped with vertical-axis wind turbines and solar panels, provide continuous, off-grid lighting to the marina without requiring any electrical grid connection.

The hybrid masts were installed directly on the floating pontoons, where grid extension was impractical and costly. Each unit combines a helical wind turbine, high-efficiency solar panels, and a smart energy storage system, delivering reliable 24/7 lighting throughout the year. This deployment contributes to the Port’s identity as a forward-thinking, tech-driven hub, while also reducing its carbon footprint.

The project marks a first-of-its-kind application in a major European marina, offering a scalable and replicable model for ports, islands, and coastal cities worldwide seeking to decarbonize critical infrastructure.

This installation in Marseille demonstrates the viability of fully autonomous lighting for ports worldwide. It also contributes to strengthening the port’s visual identity, highlighting its commitment to innovation and positioning it as a cutting-edge, technology-driven facility on the global stage. The SANYA-R system is now a proven solution for smart, sustainable lighting in marinas, remote docks, and off-grid sites.
